Panathinaikos continued their streak of good results by defeating Promitheas in the 22nd round of the Greek League by 93:62.
With this win, the Athens Greens retained the top spot in the standings, sharing the same record as Olympiacos, 20-2. Panathinaikos sits at the top because they emerged as the winner in both head-to-head games against the red-and-whites from Piraeus in the Greek league.
Promitheas was a competitive rival only in the first quarter. They sought their greatest chance in three-point shooting. They attempted ten three-pointers against Panathinaikos, hitting three of them accurately, but the guests led 19:15.
A complete collapse of Promitheas was seen in the second quarter, which was dominated by the Athens team by 30:12. Already at that moment, it was clear that there was no chance for a comeback, so Ergin Ataman’s team calmly brought the game to its conclusion.
After a double round of EuroLeague games, the Turkish coach took the opportunity to rest key players, so Kostas Sloukas, Konstantinos Mitoglou, and Mathias Lessort each played about ten minutes.
In such a lineup, Juancho Hernangomez stood out, scoring 13 points with four rebounds and the same number of assists. Kendrick Nunn stopped at 12 points, while Ioannis Papapetrou was the most efficient with 14 points, shooting flawlessly from the field (4/4) and the free-throw line (4/4).
Papapetrou had been sidelined for a long time due to injury, as well as Luca Vildoza. The Argentine scored 10 points with six assists, which is certainly good news for Panathinaikos ahead of the most important battles of the season. In the losing team, Hunter Hale scored 16 points, but with poor shooting percentages from the field (6/15).
