Panathinaikos revoked the season ticket of one of its fans and banned him for life from entering the popular OAKA arena.
The reason for such action was verbal insults directed at the referees during a EuroLeague match between the Athens Greens and Fenerbahce. After a warning, when the fan continued with verbal abuse, security escorted him out of the arena.
Following the conclusion of the game, which Panathinaikos won with a score of 74:63, the fan’s season ticket was confiscated, and as mentioned earlier, he was permanently banned from attending matches at the legendary OAKA arena.
A similar scenario occurred just two months ago in Piraeus. One of Olympiacos’ fans racially insulted referee Joseph Bissang. Due to prompt action, EuroLeague decided not to penalize Olympiacos with a match behind closed doors. Given Panathinaikos’ timely response, it is expected that they will also escape additional suspension.
“Panathinaikos is always against any form of violence at matches, and we believe we have demonstrated this several times. The atmosphere created by fans in the OAKA arena is phenomenal. We will not allow one person to spoil the excellent image we project to the world.
We strongly condemn the behavior of the fan who verbally insulted the referees. His season ticket has been revoked, and he is banned for life from entering the arena,” stated the Greek club in a press release.”
