Panathinaikos defeated Olympiacos on the road with a score of 66-54 in the fourth round of the Greek championship, handing them their first loss of the season.
The match, traditionally played with high tension, had an added “reason” this time. Kostas Sloukas made his first appearance in the green jersey as a guest at his former club, and he had to arrive at the arena under police escort.
In the first EuroLeague encounter of the season between these rivals, Olympiacos comfortably secured a win on the road. However, Panathinaikos has now celebrated with a 66-54 victory on their opponents’ home turf.
Olympiacos held a lead after the first half, in which points were hard to come by, with a score of 31-28.
In the third quarter, which also didn’t feature many spectacular plays, the guests managed to turn things around. Led by the excellent performance of Konstantinos Mitoglou, they had a 45-43 lead going into the final 10 minutes.
They played the last quarter exceptionally well and ultimately secured a convincing 66-54 victory, making them the only team without a loss after this round.
Konstantinos Mitoglou finished the game with 20 points and 10 rebounds, Kyle Guy contributed 11 points, Juancho Hernangomez had 10, Mathias Lessort scored eight points and grabbed 11 rebounds, while Kostas Sloukas scored five points, had five rebounds, and five assists.
In the home team, Nigel Williams-Goss had 14 points, Isaiah Canan had 11, and Nikola Milutinov finished the match with six points and six rebounds.
