Peristeri suffered a defeat in overtime against Kolossos by 104:93, starting the new season in the Greek Basket League with a disappointing result.
The guests had an excellent offensive performance in the first quarter, winning it 27:23. The somewhat weaker performance by Vassilis Spanoulis‘ team was punished by Kolossos in the following periods, leading by three points at halftime (42:39).
With an 11-0 run early in the third quarter, the home team built a double-digit lead, which Peristeri managed to reduce slightly by the end of the third quarter (66:59). The visiting team showed improvement in the fourth quarter, resulting in a tie and forcing the game into overtime. However, Kolossos imposed their rhythm in the extra five minutes and secured a well-deserved victory.
Paul Jorgensen was the top scorer for the home team with 21 points, while Joseph Alexander Ragland stood out for Peristeri with 25 points. Serbian basketball player Nemanja Dangubic recorded four rebounds in 26 minutes on the court.
In the next round, Kolossos will visit Lavrio, while Peristeri will host Panathinaikos.
Lavrio shocked AEK in Athens with a 98:93 victory, undoubtedly making it the sensation of the day in the Greek league.
The visitors led for most of the game, and at one point, their lead even reached 17 points.
Xavier Castaneda was the top scorer for Lavrio with 26 points, while Jordan McRae stood out for AEK with 21 points.
AEK faces a much tougher task in the next round as they visit Olympiacos, while Lavrio, as mentioned earlier, will compete against Kolossos.
