Gianmarco Pozzecco informed the public who are the 12 players he is counting on before the start of the FIBA World Cup.
Italy confirmed its great form before the start of the biggest basketball competition. They racked up the fifth consecutive victory, and this time they were better than Puerto Rico. The match ended in a standing ovation for Luigi Datome, considering that this was his last match in front of the fans of Italy.
He scored five points, while Simone Fontecchio and Gabriele Procida led Pozzecco’s team to victory with 16 points each. After the match, the head coach informed the public which two players he is not counting on for the rest of the preparations and the World Cup. They are Tomas Woldetensae and Guglielmo Caruso.
Accordingly, Italy now count on these 12 players:
Gigi Datome, Marco Spissu, Stefano Tonut, Nicolo Melli, Simone Fontecchio, Giampaolo Ricci, Matteo Spagnolo, Achille Polonara, Mouhamet Diouf, Luca Severini, Gabriele Procida, Alessandro Pajola.
“I thank Tomas and Guglielmo. They are two great players and two great guys,” Pozzecco said of the players who didn’t enter the court in the team’s last friendly game.
Italy has two more matches scheduled before the start of the tournament. The opponents will be Brazil and New Zealand.
