The president of Unicaja spoke about the budget of his team, which won the FIBA Champions League.
Unicaja president Jesus Lopez Nieto also confirmed that his team will defend the title won this year in Belgrade in the next season. Unicaja defeated Tenerife in the final of the FIBA Champions League by 80:75, lifting the trophy at the Belgrade Arena.
“I don’t care if they invite me to the EuroCup. We have to be in sustainable competition. Playing in a competition led by others… we’re not going there,” explained Jesus Lopez Nieto in a recent interview for Radio Marca, adding:
“Last year, Bonn won the FIBA Champions League harder than Paris, almost the same team, won the EuroCup,” he compared the previous winner of the FIBA Basketball Champions League with the latest EuroCup champion.
He also spoke about the club’s budget for this season.
“Our budget is set five million euros less than the golden era of the club. Unicaja’s budget was set at 19 million then. Now we are at 14. Real Madrid is close to 40, and back then it was at 22.”
In addition to the FIBA Basketball Champions League, Unicaja has also won the Radivoj Korac Cup and the EuroCup. They are currently the second-placed team in the Spanish Liga Endesa.
