In an interview with Themis Sinanoglou for the Fos ton Sport newspaper, Nikos Lotsos disclosed that Panathinaikos has inquired about the potential return of Sasha Vezenkov, the 2022-23 EuroLeague MVP, to Europe to play for the Greens.
“Panathinaikos has contacted me occasionally by phone and has shown interest in the player. However, I have informed them that both Sasha Vezenkov and I want to first assess whether he will continue in the NBA.”
“As long as he does not continue there, we will first discuss with his last team in Europe, Olympiacos, giving them priority, and in the event that the discussions do not succeed, then we will probably seriously discuss with other teams as well,” the manager said and then talked about Olympiacos details:
“I have had a ceremonial conversation with the Olympiacos administration, with whom Sasha and I maintain a very good relationship. They have expressed to me their great interest in getting him back to Olympiacos if and as long as he does not continue in the NBA.
Without having entered into negotiations, Olympiacos have given me the impression that they are prepared to do something quite serious.”
While Sasha Vezenkov remains focused on his NBA career, if he decides to return to Europe, Olympiacos Piraeus would be his preferred destination, having played there from 2018 to 2023.
Regarding Panathinaikos, head coach Ergin Ataman hinted at a potential significant addition to their frontcourt rotation:
“We are considering a major move in the center position. There’s a possibility of a significant transfer. I won’t disclose the name at this moment.”
