Serbian League organized a event on Stara Planina this year, in which sessions, lectures, tests and workshops were held, and where the opportunity to socialize with referees, delegates, coaches, club representatives and league management was used to the maximum.
Representatives of Crvena zvezda and Partizan, Nebojsa Covic and Mladjan Silobad, also attended the sessions.
At the sessions through constructive discussion, significant conclusions were reached regarding domestic championship.
“For the second year already, we are gathering in the great ambience of the hotel on Stara planina. We adopted important and interesting decisions at the Assembly. Certainly, the most interesting thing is that we have agreed that from the 2025/6 season our league goes professional! And that all clubs play in it, starting with Crvena zvezda and Partizan, and all the other ABA leagues, so that through our competition they can find a way to European competitions.
This would mean the formation of a strong Serbian league in which our best teams would play, because they would no longer have the need to participate in the regional competition,” said Aleksandar Grujin, director of the league.
Direct placement of the ABA 2 champions into the elite ABA league
Also, the position on the transfer to the ABA league from the ABA 2 league was specified, which will be submitted to the management of the regional league as a proposal.
“As is known, all countries participating in the ABA League have a limited number of participating teams. Serbia has the largest quota of participants, a total of six possible teams, but we want to define some things. We believe that it is fair that the champion of ABA 2 directly enters the elite ABA league, that he does not have to play with the lowest placed team of the five from the ABA league.
In this way, we are denied a place for the sixth participant from Serbia, and we all know that this is how Zlatibor was suspended last year, although it should have been in the regional elite,” explained Grujin.
Given that in the past period the dust has risen about some irregularities, the fixing of matches in Europe, in which some former league players were also involved, Grujin emphasized on this occasion that the “Association of Serbian Leaguers” has been actively cooperating with FIBA for a long time to uncover and prevention of any unwanted actions.
“For this purpose, we invited Tijana Zivkovic from FIBA, who gave two lectures to all groups of seminar participants and explained how the protection of the integrity of the basketball game works and the detection of unwanted phenomena and how to quickly find a way to solve the problem. Her lectures were watched with great attention, because they concern the prevention of match irregularities and doping” – concluded the director of KLS.
