Sergio Scariolo, head coach of Virtus Bologna, talked about the new players in the team, how the team will look in the new season.
The Italian head coach recently returned from the FIBA World Cup and is using this time to get to know the players.
“I’m trying to learn as much as I can about each player, to get to know the team. I have a lot of energy and enthusiasm because the new season will be very demanding, and we need to be prepared for it,” said Sergio Scariolo, adding:
“Goals and philosophy? That’s a question for the management. The club built this team and handed it to me. The roster was built by the club management, and we have to give them credit for being able to create team within the available budget. Now it’s up to us to achieve the best we can.”
Sergio Scariolo has clarified the status of Iffe Lundberg for the upcoming season.
“For him, there is currently no place in the team. This is the club decision, but let’s see how things develop in the next few days. I must say that Iffe is training with great seriousness and professionalism, just like last year,” emphasized Sergio Scariolo.
Virtus failed to qualify for the EuroLeague playoffs last season. Scariolo believes that securing a spot among the top eight will be a very tough task this season.
“When I look at the rosters of EuroLeague teams, it seems to me that the best moves were made by those who didn’t make the playoffs last season. The league will be even tougher than last year. We have to be ready and adequately prepare for everything that lies ahead” concluded the 62-year-old Italian head coach.
