Shamiel Stevenson, a former student at the University of Nebraska, is the newest member of KK Split, as confirmed by the coastal club.
The Canadian forward joins from CSM Targu Jiu, where he averaged 20.1 points and 7.5 rebounds per game in 30 appearances. He has also played for Metalac Valjevo in his career.
Stevenson hails from Toronto and, in addition to his time at Nebraska, he also studied at Pitt University. During his NCAA career, he averaged seven points and 3.4 rebounds.
This summer, Split has also signed Cameron Shelton, Toni Perkovic, Kresimir Ljubicic, Lovro Gnjidic, and DJ Funderburk. Additionally, Slaven Rimac, the former coach of Cibona and Cedevita Olimpija, has joined the coaching staff at Gripe.
The “Yellow Team” has ambitious goals for the upcoming season. They aim to secure their place in the ABA League and contend for the Croatian championship title. Their last championship win was in 2003.
In the previous season, Split reached the finals of the Croatian championship but lost to Zadar. In the ABA League, they finished as the tenth-ranked team. They will begin the new season against SC Derby and open their league campaign against Sibenka. Before that, they will play a friendly match against Borac.
