Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the Orlando Magic 127-113, but this match will be remembered for Shaquille O’Neal’s jersey retirement.
Popularly known as “Shaq,” he began his long and successful career in the home of, Disney, Orlando. He spent only four years there (1992-1996), but clearly left an indelible mark. At that time, the Magic had just entered the NBA. They were one of the two expansion teams that joined the league in 1989.
Therefore, they decided to honor O’Neal in the best possible way. His jersey with the number 32 now hangs above the stands of the Amway Center. In Orlando, “Shaq” was the Rookie of the Year, and he played in his first career finals in 1995 when the Houston Rockets won the franchise’s first title. Unfortunately for him, the young talents of the Orlando Magic couldn’t secure victory, as the duo from Oklahoma, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jalen Williams, combined for 65 points, leaving no room for a response. Oklahoma City remains in the race for the top spot in the West, and the post-All-Star break period promises to be very interesting.
Minnesota Timberwolves have been one of the pleasant surprises this season, and they recently overcame the Portland Trail Blazers with a score of 121-109, albeit with some effort. Once again, they were led to victory by Anthony Edwards, who scored 41 points. Minnesota is currently tied for first place in the Western Conference, with serious competition expected from three other teams (Nuggets, Clippers, Thunder) until the end of the season.
