Simone Pianigiani, the coach of Cedevita Olimpija, which has been facing numerous injury problems, spoke ahead of the Slovenian Super Cup.
Cedevita Olimpija’s team officially entered the 2023/2024 season with the competition in the ABA League Super Cup in Podgorica, where the Dragons faced several health issues and finished the tournament in eighth place.
Karlo Matkovic, Justin Coobs, and Luka Scuka, who did not step onto the court due to issues in the last tournament match against FMP, trained normally with the team on Saturday.
After the last game in Podgorica, Sean Armand felt pain in his ankle and trained on Saturday with a modified program. The same goes for Shawn Jones (ankle pain) and Nikola Radicevic (hand pain), who did not play in the Super Cup in Podgorica.
On Monday, they will be competing for their first trophy of the season, the Slovenian Super Cup, against Helios.
“We know that the preseason is still ongoing, and we are aware of our current situation. We will do everything to start the new season successfully at home, and Cedevita Olimpija continues to win titles in Slovenia.
We will approach the game seriously, even though we are currently trying to integrate new players into our system while simultaneously trying to address injuries that make us uncertain about what our team will look like on Monday. Our main motivation during the preseason is to improve day by day,” said Simone Pianigiani before Monday’s match.
