Simone Pianigiani, the coach of Cedevita Olimpija, spoke ahead of the upcoming EuroCup match, which his team will play against Joventut.
Cedevita Olimpija has not had the best start to the season, to say the least. They had a narrow win against Mega in the ABA League, followed by tough and painful losses to Hapoel Tel Aviv in the EuroCup by 27 points and then to Crvena Zvezda by 43 points in the regional league.
Now, they will host Joventut on their home court.
“After Hapoel and Crvena Zvezda, we have another demanding game ahead, but I hope we will show a different face because we are playing on our home court. Joventut has many very good experienced players, including those who have played in the EuroLeague.
Many players have been part of the team with the same coach for years, so they know how to play and control the flow of the game, and Joventut will surely be highly motivated after their loss to Besiktas in their first home game,” said Simone Pianigiani and continued:
“I expect my players not to lose faith in themselves. We need to work, but at the same time, we have a large number of games until the end of October. Our job is to train and progress, play and try to achieve victories or show progress. If we lose, we must not give up, as happened against teams in a better position than us. We need to change that if we want to become a serious team as soon as possible.
We need to keep working to progress because our main goal is to improve day by day. We all work together every day, and that’s the only way we’ll progress. We must be mentally strong because opponents like to control the pace of the game on the court. If we approach the game with the right attitude, we can achieve victory”, concluded Simone Pianigiani
Jaka Blazic, the captain of Cedevita Olimpija, believes in his team despite the stumbling start to the season.
“Considering that we haven’t had an easy week, we are eagerly looking forward to the game. Fortunately, the season is such that games come every two to three days, so we are impatiently awaiting our first home game in the EuroCup.
We are aware that our situation at the moment is not optimal, but in the days left until the showdown with Joventut, we will do everything to prepare as best as possible for the game.”
The Cedevita Olimpija vs. Joventut match is scheduled for Wednesday at 6:15 PM.
