Iran started the game strong, led by Amin Mohammad, taking a 15-6 lead, but Spain managed to narrow the gap by the end of the first quarter. The second quarter was highlighted by a 7-0 run from Santi Aldama, which gave La Familia the lead. Veteran Hamed Haddadi tried to bring his team back into the game, but Spain held a nine-point lead at halftime.
Hakan Demir team kept the deficit within single digits for a while, but Sergio Scariolo squad extended their lead to 12 points by the end of the third quarter. The Iran didn’t have the energy to mount another comeback, allowing Spain to increase their lead and ultimately secure a convincing victory.
Juancho Hernangomez was the top scorer for the Spanish team with 21 points, while Amin Mohammad stood out for Iran with 19 points.
Spain finishes Group G in first place with three wins, while Iran remains in last place with three losses. Brazil secured a spot in the next round of the FIBA World Cup from the second position with a 2-1 record, and Ivory Coast claimed the third spot with one win and two losses.
