Steve Kerr spoke after the match at the FIBA World Cup, in which the United States defeated Greece by 109-81.
The Americans played a high-quality match and secured their second victory in the tournament. At the beginning of the press conference, Steve Kerr analyzed the events on the court.
“Really good effort from our guys. We are 12 deep roster and we just try to stay solid in every possession and put pressure on the opponent. We need to do that because Greece plays very well in the first half. It is a good team very well-coached.”
After that, Kerr speak about Josh hart and his games.
“Josh Hart is a born winner. People ask what position he plays; he plays the position of a winner. He snatches loose balls, can defend anyone. Some players win balls that are 50-50, he wins balls that are 30-70. His skill is incredible, he pushes the ball well in transition. He’s the one who often creates in fast breaks, he’s a unique player.“
Kerr believes that France’s elimination serves as a warning for all the favorites.
“We saw how France fared yesterday, and that’s a great wake-up call for all of us. There’s no easy game in this tournament. The competitive level is incomparably better compared to eight years ago. There are many talented teams, excellently led. We’re excited because we’ve advanced to the next round. We’ll continue moving forward, and we have six more games to play” Kerr stated.
The United States’ head coach spoke highly of his assistants.
“For each game, one of the assistants is in charge. The game against Greece was Tyrone Lue’s responsibility. All the assistants are excellent experts. They see every detail and prepare a great game plan.
We’re utilizing the knowledge they possess. This is not normal, to have 12 players who give their all for each other. For me, this is a special experience, and I’m happy to be part of this whole story” Kerr mentioned.
Kerr talked about the defensive potential of his team.
“We’re fortunate to have not only 12 NBA players but 12 great players. We can switch and play different defenses. We have a lot of fantastic basketball players who play on both ends of the court” Kerr said.
As the press conference concluded, a journalist asked Kerr to comment on his team’s approach and also the recent struggles of Argentina.
“We’re focused on getting better from game to game. We’re excited about the 40 minutes ahead against Jordan. Every practice is meaningful to us. Argentina has a rich history. They’re going through a tough period now. But that’s part of sports, there are ups and downs. But it’s certain they will bounce back and be better.” Kerr concluded.
The Americans will play against Jordan on Wednesday, August 30th.
