Tarik Biberovic made his debut for the Turkish national team in the first qualification window for EuroBasket 2025, showing that he will be a new great hope for Turkish basketball.
The young man from Zenica was a member of the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team in youth categories, but in 2018, he chose to play for Turkey. He waited a long time to receive the call-up and for the paperwork to be sorted out, finally gaining foreign player status earlier this year.
His international debut came against Italy. Although Turkey lost the match, he made a strong impression. He scored 27 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and dished out four assists. This performance earned him an overall index rating of 28 and he was the only Turkish player with a positive plus-minus in that game.
Then came the match against Iceland. The Turks were favored in this encounter but struggled until the last moment. Ergin Ataman designed a play for the Fenerbahce player, showing how much trust the Turkish coach has in him. The ball slipped a little out of his hands, but that didn’t bother him, and he hit the shot with the sound of the buzzer and scored for a crucial victory.
Tarik Biberovic possesses an exceptional quality – shooting. The Turkish national team has not had such a shooter for a long time. It could even be said that he is the best shooter since Hedo Turkoglu and is an outstanding prospect.
Cedi Osman is the latest great Turkish export, and if the “Canaries'” shooter continues like this, he can quickly catch up. The Memphis Grizzlies have his draft rights, and time will tell if he will make the leap to the NBA. Currently, he is having a great season with Fenerbahce, and until the end of the competitive year, he will be one of the players to watch closely.
