Real Madrid convincingly defeated Baskonia on the road with a score of 99-85 in the 17th round of the Liga Endesa.
With this result, Madrid left the team from Vitoria below the cutoff for the Copa del Rey (ninth place), and Baskonia will miss the tournament for the third time in the last five years.
The first quarter was a clear indicator of the dominance of the current European champions, who were unaffected by the demanding schedule of a double EuroLeague round and a four-overtime game against Anadolu Efes.
Real Madrid decisively won that part of the game with a score of 35-20, steering the duel in their desired direction. The team of Dusko Ivanovic managed to tighten their defense, limiting the opponent to only 16 points in the second quarter.
As time passed, the home team became increasingly dangerous. In the fourth quarter, when it was crucial, Chus Mateo’s squad raised their level of play once again and smoothly brought the match to a close.
The top scorers for the winners were Guerschon Yabusele with 24 points, and Facundo Campazzo and Dzanan Musa with 20 points each. The defeated team was led by the duo of Markus Howard and Cody Miller-McIntyre, both contributing 16 points.
