Thomas Walkup spoke to “ERT3″ about the upcoming Greek Cup, injuries in the Olympiacos team, and Moses Wright.
It’s not easy being a player for Olympiacos this season. There have been frequent injuries and tough losses, but the team always seems to find a way to overcome crises. The naturalized Greek doesn’t see a reason to judge a season while it’s still ongoing, and Olympiacos is now focusing on the Cup.
“We started the season and there were some injury issues, but we are on the right track, and we are optimistic. Judging the development of the season in the midst of it is not something to do. We will be what we need to be and we’ll be ready for the Cup. You can’t make excuses. What you need to do is to do your job properly, without thinking about whether you’re healthy or injured, that doesn’t matter. Simply because losses are losses,” Thomas Walkup began.
He continued in the same breath:
“When this… storm came and lingered in Greece and Europe, we did a pretty good job. I feel comfortable again because there were a lot of challenges. But there was support from coaches and teammates. When you have ups and downs, and then you have that support, it helps you find rhythm and confidence in your game. You never stop working, and that’s how you get back to normal.”
One of the surprises of the season has been Moses Wright. The American center was brought in from Merkezefendi because Moustapha Fall and Nikola Milutinov were injured, and the Greek international is particularly impressed with him.
“He’s already helped us with his presence and the time he’s put in. So far, he’s been fantastic. That helps us a lot. From the moment he arrived, he played great and helped the team’s system function. You never know what someone will do. He came into the EuroLeague for the first time and played without fear. That’s what we need now. It’s not just the skills he has in the game but also the lack of fear. That’s great.”
