Tobias Harris has signed a two-year, $52 million deal with the Detroit Pistons, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports.
One of the Detroit Pistons’ main goals this offseason was to add experience and scoring depth to their roster, which is highlighted by youthful, growing talents. Harris now joins the organization to be a stabilizer on the wing as well as a well-traveled leader to help guide the franchise in the right direction.
He played under Stan Van Gundy with the Pistons from 2016 to 2018, has consistently been a strong scorer, averaging at least 17 points per game in seven different seasons, including the most recent one. As he approaches his 32nd birthday on July 15, Harris has accepted a significant pay cut after earning $39 million last season on a notoriously difficult-to-trade contract.
During his six-year tenure with the Philadelphia 76ers (2018-2024), Harris averaged 17.2 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.0 steals per game. Last season, he shot 36.9% from three-point range, making 4.1 attempts per game.
Tobias Harris joins a rebuilding Pistons organization that has made several changes this offseason. In addition to hiring recent New Orleans Pelicans general manager Trajan Langdon to be their new President of Basketball Operations, the Pistons also hired recent Cleveland Cavaliers coach JB Bickerstaff to take over for Monty Williams on the sidelines. The addition of Harris is yet another change for the Pistons, one that they hope will help Cade Cunningham, who recently signed a max rookie extension, immensely.
