Canadian basketball player Tristan Thompson is set to return to the Cleveland Cavaliers after three seasons, according to The Athletic journalist Shams Charania.
Thompson did not play a single regular-season game for the Los Angeles Lakers last season. He will attempt to regain his form with the team with which he won an NBA championship in 2016.
He joined the Lakers during the playoffs and averaged 1.8 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 5.3 minutes per game over six games.
Before his stint in Los Angeles, in the previous season, he played for three different teams, including the Sacramento Kings, Indiana Pacers, and Chicago Bulls. He played a total of 57 games in the 2021/2022 season, averaging six points and 5.1 rebounds in 15.7 minutes.
His best season was also his last in Cleveland before his return. In his initial tenure with the Cavaliers in 2020, he averaged 12 points and 10.1 rebounds per game.
Winning the title with Cleveland in 2016 is considered one of the greatest comebacks in NBA history. The team, led by LeBron James, overcame a 3-1 deficit in the finals against the Golden State Warriors, ultimately winning the next three games. Kyrie Irving played a significant role in securing the first championship for the team.
Since LeBron James left, the Cavaliers missed the playoffs for four seasons before returning to the playoffs last year, where they were eliminated in the early rounds.
