Tristan Thompson, basketball player of Cleveland Cavaliers, has been suspended for violating anti-doping rules in the NBA.
In April of last year, the NBA discontinued testing players for marijuana, a change that had been announced three years earlier but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Meanwhile, testing for substances affecting basketball players’ performance has continued.
Thompson has been averaging 3.8 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 3.9 assists for the Cleveland Cavaliers so far this season. Despite his absence, his team is performing well, currently holding a strong fourth position in the Eastern Conference with a record of 26-15.
Beginning his NBA career with the Cavaliers, Thompson spent the first nine years of his career with the team. He later played for the Boston Celtics, Sacramento Kings, Indiana Pacers, Chicago Bulls, and Los Angeles Lakers before returning to where it all started.
With the Cleveland Cavaliers, Thompson won an NBA championship in 2016, orchestrating a remarkable comeback against the Golden State Warriors in the finals.
