Virtus suffered its second defeat in Serie A as the team from Bologna was defeated by Brindisi by 83:75.
Brindisi, led by coach Dragan Sakota since the seventh round, had not secured a win in Serie A before this match. Tonight, they claimed the “scalp” of Luca Banchi’s team.
In the first quarter, the hosts made it clear to Virtus that they had no intention of surrendering without a fight. After a three-pointer at the end of the quarter, Brindisi finished the first 10 minutes with a score of 24:13.
The chosen ones of Dragan Sakota started the second quarter well, but Virtus, before the break, went on a 13:1 run, heading into halftime with a score of 40-39.
However, just as they started the first half, the hosts initiated the second half with a strong performance. They dominated the third quarter 30-18 and entered the final 10 minutes with a significant +13 lead.
There, they managed to withstand Virtus’ attacks, who narrowed the gap to seven points at most. Sakota’s team completed a remarkable upset in the ninth round at Palacanestra.
For Brindisi, Jordan Bayehe and Jeremy Senglin scored 25 and 22 points, respectively, while in the losing team, Tornike Shengelia and Iffe Lundberg each contributed 14 points.
