The USA national team, led by coach Steve Kerr, kicked off their World Cup preparations with an impressive performance, securing a convincing 117-74 victory against Puerto Rico.
In the first match held in Las Vegas, Puerto Rico managed to keep up with the Americans during the first half, trailing by only seven points (50-43) at halftime.
However, the tide turned in the second half, and the home team dominated the court. After the third quarter, Team USA had built a comfortable double-digit lead of 84-61, and they continued their strong performance in the final quarter, ultimately securing a 43-point victory.
Anthony Edwards and Cam Johnson were the top scorers for the winning team, each contributing 15 points, while Mikal Bridges added 14, and Jaren Jackson Jr. scored 12 points. Jalen Brunson, Brandon Ingram, and Bobby Portis each chipped in with 11 points. Tremont Waters led Puerto Rico with 17 points.
Team USA is placed in Group C for the World Cup alongside Jordan, Greece, and New Zealand. On the other hand, Puerto Rico will compete in Group B, facing South Sudan, Serbia, and China.
