Usman Garuba, 21 old Spanish big man, was released by the NBA team Oklahoma City Thunder, last two seasons he spent with Houston Rockets.
The Oklahoma City Thunder have officially announced that they have parted ways with Spanish big man Usman Garuba. The player was traded to the Thunder during the summer by the Houston Rockets as a part of a multi-team trade.
The Spanish big man was drafted by the Houston Rockets with the 21st pick overall in the 2021 NBA Draft. But during his two seasons in Houston, he found limited playing time, averaging only 13 minutes per game last season. Last season he average only three points and four rebounds per game.
Garuba had a guaranteed contract for the next season, worth around 2.5 million dollars. Thunder had to waive several players in order to get down to the league’s maximum number of players available on the roster. Garuba will now be able to operate as a free agent and find a new team that might be better for his career.
Garuba will now focus on the FIBA World Cup, where he will represent Spain. His national team is defending the title they won four years ago in China.
The FIBA World Cup will be played from August 25th to September 10th in the Philippines, Indonesia, and Japan. Spain will play in group G, with Iran, Brazil and Ivory Coast.
