Oklahoma City Thunder’s basketball player, Vasilije Micic, has stated that he is happy to continue his career with the Thunder and added that he worked hard for nine years to make it to the NBA, as reported by Forbes.
During the summer transfer window, Micic signed a three-year contract with Oklahoma. Philadelphia drafted Micic in the NBA draft in 2014, but in 2020, they traded his rights to the Oklahoma team.
“This summer, there was no doubt about the NBA because I felt like I had reached the highest level in Europe, which is very tough. I’m very happy this finally happened because I honestly worked for nine years to make it to the NBA, so I think it was worth it,” said Micic.
The Serbian basketball player then spoke favorably about his new club.
“Before I came here, I heard a lot of positive things about the organization from other people, especially from Serbs who were already in the NBA. Everyone had very positive comments and opinions. I completely agree with them,” added the point guard.
On Additional Motivation
He spent the previous five seasons playing for Efes, with whom he won two EuroLeague titles. Micić will be playing in the NBA for the first time in his career.
“I think this organization is very, very good in terms of facilities, player access, starting from the gym, the effort they put in every day, and the coaching staff. Every day when I come to the gym, I feel like everyone is giving their all that day. It gives you extra motivation. And then the players, they are so humble, so competitive, and ready to work,” said the Serbian basketball player.
Micic stated that by joining Oklahoma, he is seeking a new challenge.
“I feel like I need to challenge myself once again, and I’ve told the coach that I feel like I can maybe be the most interesting guy on the court this year, even though I’m older than others. Yes, that’s the main thing that drives me,” said Micic, adding:
“When you reach a certain level of success there, you somehow want to expand your potential, and I think this call came at the right time. Like I said, if I hadn’t received this offer, I would probably have stayed there until the end. But with the conditions they have offered me and the respect they have shown me in the Thunder so far, I feel like it’s more than enough for me to come and challenge myself,” concluded Vasilije Micic.
Before Efes, Micic played for Zalgiris, Tofas, Crvena Zvezda, Bayern, and Mega.
