Vassilis Spanoulis, head coach of Peristeri, spoke after their defeat against Murcia in the FIBA Champions League third-place game.
The legendary Greek emphasized lessons throughout the entire media conference. Despite Peristeri lacking extensive experience, they left a good impression, as their head coach believes.
“There are many positive things. Sometimes it’s more important to lose than to win. We played very well in the last 12 minutes, we came back from a 16-point deficit. One or two rebounds, one decision can decide the game. I can’t complain about my players. They don’t have much experience, but they were motivated.
I said both teams could win, and in the end, small details decided it. I’m very proud of them; I told them that in the locker room. Sometimes you have to lose to learn some lessons,” said Vassilis Spanoulis.
Good and bad moments
“We had good and bad moments. You can’t have ‘dead moments’ in a game. We see that in the game. Sometimes we’re aggressive, we set good screens, but defensively, we can be weak and lack good communication.
That’s a matter of experience. It’s important for everyone to understand that every possession matters. In two games, we were missing one rebound for the win. If the guys have dreams and goals, it’s good for them because they’ll learn important lessons,” Spanoulis concluded.
