Victor Wembanyama, this year’s top pick in the NBA Draft and a representative of France, has confirmed that he will play in the Paris Olympics.
The French super-talented player has confirmed his participation in Paris. He missed this year’s FIBA World Cup but has already confirmed that he will play for his country next year.
“Achieving success at the Olympics would be a fantastic story. The goal will be nothing less than gold. Of course, I will be present at the Olympics. I watched the World Cup, and the result was very disappointing. However, I’m not worried. I have no other criticisms to make; I wasn’t part of the team, and it’s in the hands of top-level players. I feel that it doesn’t diminish our chance to achieve something great in Paris next year,” Wembanyama began.
He emphasized, as a former Metropolitans player, that he needed a break and that fatigue caught up with him after the Summer League.
“It’s the first time in my life that I felt mentally tired because of all the events that happened one after the other. Nothing negative. But rest, after the Summer League, was necessary for me to continue calmly on a mental level. I isolated myself a bit. This is the first time I’ve appeared in the media in three months,” the young player said.
About NBA career
He concluded by discussing the goals of his new team, the San Antonio Spurs. The Spurs haven’t been in the playoffs for a while, so that’s the primary goal, but he also spoke about their long-term ambitions.
“An ideal start would be making the playoffs already. As for the rest, it’s best not to know those things. I hope to be surprised, and I hope it will be beautiful. It’s no secret that winning a championship is tough. But I’m patient, and I know it will happen. Not winning in my early years is not an obstacle to becoming a Hall of Famer or winning five titles later on,” Wembanyama concluded.
