During the night, Victor Wembanyama and Jalen Brunson led a historic battle that ultimately went to the San Antonio Spurs.
This game will surely be remembered as historic for many reasons. First, the Spurs had an early lead of 13 points after the first 12 minutes. They continued their strong performance and reached a maximum lead of 21 points. They went into halftime with a 17-point advantage, as the score was 74:57.
However, Tom Thibodeau’s team had different plans, and they made a furious comeback to tie the score with a strong series of plays. Nevertheless, it was still 94:91 after the first 36 minutes. The final quarter was a true battle, and we went into overtime.
In overtime, the home team had more energy. The Knicks chased the score throughout the entire match and ultimately succumbed at the end. They scored only five points in the additional five minutes, and the Spurs triumphed 130:126.
Victor Wembanyama likely solidified his Rookie of the Year award, if there was even any doubt left. He scored 40 points, grabbed 20 rebounds, and had seven assists. Devin Vassell followed with 23 points.
However, Jalen Brunson stole the show. He scored an impressive 61 points in the Knicks’ defeat. He attempted a staggering 47 shots, the most by a player since Kobe Bryant in his final NBA game. Donte DiVincenzo also contributed with 20 points.
