Daniel Hackett has become the Italian with the most points in the EuroLeague, as he scored eight points against Monaco on Friday evening, surpassing his compatriot Luigi Datome.
Virtus dominated Monaco with a score of 83-59 in their EuroLeague game.
The 2019 champion set the record by making a couple of free throws in the second quarter at the Gaston Medecin Arena. The rest of his points came from beyond the three-point line, with one three-pointer in the first quarter and another in the fourth, bringing him to a 2/6 field goal shooting performance that night.
The experienced guard has reached a total of 2,283 points on the EuroLeague stage, surpassing former Fenerbahce and Olimpia Milano player Luigi Datome, who had 2,278 points.
The experienced Italian international has now reached a total of 219 EuroLeague points in Virtus’ jersey. He scored the most points with CSKA Moscow (862), followed by 425 with Olimpia Milano, 279 with Montepaschi, 249 with Olympiacos, and the same number with Brose Bamberg. On his 277 appearances, he has averaged 8.2 points.
Daniel Hackett has started his 12th season in the EuroLeague, while the retired Datome needed 13 seasons and 273 games to set the record. It’s clear that the Virtus player will have many more opportunities to solidify his position at the top of the all-time list and perhaps set an unreachable benchmark for future generations.
