Monaco suffered their second consecutive defeat in the double round of the EuroLeague, losing to Real Madrid with a score of 91-73.
Chus Mateo was without Carlos Alocen and Eli Ndiaye in this game as well. On the other hand, Monaco came to Madrid with a complete lineup.
Real was the better opponent in the first quarter, which they won 30-20, largely thanks to the in-form Dzanan Musa. The Bosnian and Herzegovinian representative orchestrated a 9-0 run on his own, finishing the quarter with 14 points.
After three minutes of play in the second quarter and a three-pointer from Sergio Llull, Real extended the lead to +16. Monaco struggled offensively in the first six minutes of the second quarter, but they made a late 13-5 run to go into halftime with a score of 53-39.
The third quarter was a replica of the second, only this time there was no Monaco comeback. Facundo Campazo joined the party, orchestrating his team’s offense, while Walter Tavares took care of the defense. Real extended the lead to 30 points with Llull’s fourth three-pointer at the end of the third quarter.
The host went without points for several minutes in the fourth quarter, but Monaco only managed to slightly reduce the deficit.
Musa was the top scorer among the ‘knightly’ team with 21 points, while Llull had 14. On the other hand, Donatas Motiejunas scored 14, and Mike James had 13 points.
After this defeat, Sasa Obradovic’s team has a 5-4 record in the EuroLeague, while Real Madrid remains undefeated after eight games.
