During the Turkish Super League game between Besiktas and Fenerbahce, a scandal of international proportions unfolded involving the home team’s fans.
Apart from derogatory chants and high tension in the “Sinan Erdem” arena, one of the fans threw a solid object from the stands, hitting Yam Madar. Because of this, the refereeing trio decided to interrupt the game, leading to a pause that lasted more than ten minutes.
The incident started after a Fenerbahce board member reacted to offensive shouts from the stands. At no point was the evacuation of the stands considered, and all fans remained in the arena.
Even the attempts of coach Dusan Alimpijevic to calm tensions were in vain, as hooligan behavior from the stands persisted. The incident and significant scandal occurred two minutes and 46 seconds before the end of the first half, with Besiktas leading 29-22 at that moment.
