Victor Wembanyama was the standout player for San Antonio in a friendly game against Miami, leading the Spurs to a convincing win of 120-104.
Victor Wembanyama had a nightmarish debut for San Antonio, admitting that he “wasn’t sure what he was doing on the court” after the game against Charlotte. There was a degree of skepticism in the American basketball community regarding the French player’s quality. However, Victor is slowly but surely demonstrating that he is ready for the top basketball league in the world.
The first overall pick of this year’s draft continued his impressive performances in the preseason. After a noteworthy role in the loss to Oklahoma, he delivered another excellent performance against Miami.
The reigning Eastern Conference champion had no answers for the 19-year-old giant. Despite not looking particularly imposing physically, Wembanyama dominated the paint against the Heat. He was sending shots back, dunking over defenders, and making shots from all over the court. Even though Miami had fielded a reserve lineup, the Frenchman put on a show worthy of the expensive tickets.
Wembanyama finished the game with 23 points on 10/15 shooting, along with four rebounds, four assists, and three blocks. However, these statistics don’t fully capture how effortlessly the young Frenchman handled his opponents.
Regarding the game itself, Miami kept pace with their opponents until the final quarter. However, at the start of the fourth quarter, San Antonio pulled ahead by seven points and extended their lead further by the end.
The highest scorer of the match was Miami’s Jamal Kane with 24 points, while Victor Wembanyama had one point less. His teammate, Devin Vassel, scored 21 points. Serbian basketball player Nikola Jovic did not get a chance to play.
