Lassi Touvi, the head coach of the Finnish national team, will reportedly join Virtus’ team, according to information from Giuseppe Sciascia of SuperBasket.
Following the unexpected dismissal of Sergio Scariolo, the Italian team turned to Luca Banchi. He was quickly brought to Bologna just a few hours after they parted ways with the Spanish coach. It seems that another expert from that competition will join the best coach of the FIBA World Cup.
Touvi is the head coach of the Finnish national team, but he could soon join Banchi as an assistant coach. This summer, he worked as an assistant coach with the Utah Jazz’s developmental team after the conclusion of the FIBA World Cup.
The Finn is a young coach, only 36 years old, but he already boasts over ten years of rich experience. He began his career in his native Finland but has also been part of Strasbourg and Besiktas.
Since last year, he has been the head coach of the Finnish national team, and he had his first real opportunity to lead the national team this year. Unfortunately, that mission ended in disappointment. Finland was defeated by Japan, Germany, and Australia, finishing 21st overall.
It appears he will replace Scariolo’s assistant, Andrea Diana, and the two sides are already negotiating the final details of the contract. Virtus competes in the EuroLeague and Serie A this season.
