Virtus achieved their tenth win in the EuroLeague. Luca Banchi’s team defeated Baskonia 91:81 in the 14th round on the road in Spain.
The visitors had a much better start to the game. Through excellent defensive play, they managed to pull away and take a 17:6 lead. Baskonia found an offensive rhythm, but after the first quarter, they were trailing by nine points.
In the second quarter, the home team played significantly better. However, the team from Bologna resisted for a long time and maintained their lead. Nevertheless, towards the end of the first half, Baskonia made a comeback and went into halftime with a one-point advantage
In the third quarter, there was a fierce battle. The teams alternated in the lead, and neither side managed to break away. Virtus had a four-point lead at one point, and after the third period, they were leading 63:60.
The same rhythm continued at the start of the final quarter. However, with Baskonia leading 70:68, the visitors scored 10 consecutive points, taking an eight-point lead. The home team didn’t give up easily and tried to get back into the game. However, they couldn’t succeed, and Virtus’ celebration could begin.
Marco Belinelli led his team to win with 27 points, while on the other side, Chima Moneke had 16 points.
Baskonia now has eight wins and six losses, with a duel against Maccabi Tel Aviv ahead. Virtus secured their tenth triumph of the season and will host Olympiacos in the next round.
