Virtus continued their excellent performances. Luca Banchi’s team secured their ninth victory of the season by defeating Maccabi Tel Aviv by 100:90.
Right from the start, the game was played at a fantastic pace, and both teams were exceptionally efficient in the offensive phase. Throughout the entire first quarter, the teams took turns leading. After ten minutes of excellent basketball from both sides, the guests held a 29:28 lead.
Maccabi Tel Aviv took a 34:28 lead at the beginning of the second period, but the home team responded with a 9:0 run. The guests then regained the lead at 39:37. The first half saw a back-and-forth battle, and the teams went into halftime with a tied score of 49:49.
In the continuation of the game, the pace remained high. Midway through the third quarter, the team from Bologna significantly stepped up their game. Through solid defense, Virtus gained a double-digit lead. By the end of the third period, Maccabi Tel Aviv narrowed the gap to six points.
The home team had a better start to the final quarter, once again establishing a double-digit lead. Maccabi Tel Aviv didn’t surrender easily and tried every means to stay in the game. At one point, the Israeli team closed in to a three-point deficit. However, Virtus withstood the opponent’s surge and secured the victory.
Tornike Shengelia led his team to triumph with 27 points, while Lorenzo Brown on the opposing side scored 26 points.
Virtus now holds nine wins and four losses and will face Baskonia next. Maccabi Tel Aviv, with two fewer victories, is set to compete against Anadolu Efes.
