Walter Tavares is one of the most crucial players for Real Madrid. However, the experienced center is uncertain about remaining in Madrid.
Walter Tavares arrived at Real Madrid in 2017, after failing to secure a prominent role in the NBA. He lead Real to win Euroleague, last season. In an interview with “Relevo“, he revealed his uncertainty regarding his future.
“I don’t know if I will renew my contract with Real Madrid. It’s true that I have another year on my contract, and I really don’t know what to tell you. Yes, I hope we will reach an agreement, but at the same time, there’s also the dream of returning to the NBA. I don’t want to give up on that just like that.”
Tavares is currently prioritizing the FIBA World Cup and not worrying about his future. He will be leading his national team during Mundobasket.
“Everything is open, but I’m not worried. I’m concentrated on the FIBA World Cup, where I’ll be playing with my national team. After that, I’ll enjoy every moment with the club, up until my last game.
If I stay, it will be good, but even if I don’t stay, nothing will happen. I’ve mentioned several times that the NBA is on my mind, but everything needs to be thoroughly analyzed before making a decision,” concluded the Real Madrid basketball player.
Tavares had previously played for Gran Canaria, Atlanta, and Cleveland before joining Real. Additionally, he had also spent a portion of his career in G League.
