Yakuba Ouattara, the captain of Monaco, has extended his contract with the French champions for another year. The club confirmed this news.
This will be Yakuba Ouattara eighth season with the club on the French Riviera. Last season, he averaged 3.9 points and one rebound per game. With the popular “Roca Team,” he achieved a historic Final Four appearance in the same year, where they won against Barcelona in the third-place match.
He didn’t have a successful summer with the French national team. They were eliminated in the group stage of the FIBA World Cup. They suffered losses to the teams from Latvia and Canada, and Ouattara didn’t have a prominent role in the championship.
Ouattara wasn’t part of the team that won the EuroCup in 2021, but he is considered one of the leaders of this team. Since his return to the club in 2021, under the leadership of Sasa Obradovic, he has played 65 games.
Monaco has high ambitions for the upcoming season. This summer, they made a significant addition with Kemba Walker. They also managed to retain Mike James, the standout player of the club from the previous season. Alongside Walker, they brought in Petr Cornelie, who won the EuroLeague with Real Madrid last season, and Terry Tarpey, another French national team player. They also strengthened the center position with the arrival of Mam Jaiteh from Virtus.
