Zalgiris defeated Juventus 79-69 in the second round of the national championship, maintaining their top position in the standings.
The home team only performed better than their rivals in the first quarter, which ended with Juventus leading 17-15. However, Kazys Maksvytis’ team stepped up in the following quarters, orchestrating a turnaround and going into halftime with a five-point lead.
The lead quickly grew to double digits for the Kaunas team in the third quarter, making it clear that they were on their way to their second victory of the season. The “Green” team then comfortably secured the win.
Arnas Butkevicius was the top scorer for Zalgiris with 13 points, while Billy Ivey stood out for Juventus with 17 points.
Zalgiris remains at the top of the table with a 2-0 record, alongside Wolves, Rytas and Jonava. On the other hand, Juventus has a 1-1 record.
In the next period, the “Green” team will face Pieno Zvaigzdes before opening the EuroLeague season with a game against Virtus in Bologna.
Juventus will host Neptunas in the next round of the national championship.
