Zalgiris secured a win against the Mazeikiai in the domestic championship by 73:69, ahead of their match against Crvena Zvezda in the second round of the EuroLeague.
The Lithuanian champions didn’t shine, but in the end, their superior quality led them to victory on the road. The team held a consistent lead throughout the first three quarters. Heading into the final 10 minutes of the game, they were ahead 57:45.
Then, the visiting team made an 8-0 run, closing the gap to 57:53 at the beginning of the final quarter. They hinted at a comeback and played the last 10 minutes in great style, winning that period 28:12 and ultimately securing the victory.
Keenan Evans led the scoring for Zalgiris with 18 points, while Edgaras Ulanovas contributed 15. On the home team, Daniel Dolenc and Martynas Gecevicius led the way with 17 points each.
In the second game played on Monday, Juventus had a convincing win on the road against Nevezis, with a final score of 91:64.
Ajdin Penava and Marius Valinskas were the standout performers for the winning team, each contributing 17 points. Viny Okouo led the home team with 20 points and 10 rebounds.
Zalgiris’ next match will be against Crvena Zvezda in the EuroLeague on Friday, while in their domestic competition, their next opponent will be Jonava. Mazeikiai will face Rytas in the next round.
