Zeljko Obradovic spoke at a press conference after the quarterfinal match of the ABA Super Cup, where Partizan played against Mega.
The “Black and Whites” won with a score of 89:78, securing their spot in the semifinals and setting up a showdown against Igokea, who had earlier defeated Cedevita Olimpija today.
“We’ve opened the tournament, and it’s clear that the team is not yet at the level required for any official competition. We had a short preparation period, but we made that decision because we have a demanding season ahead. I’ve mentioned this before. In the first two months, we’ll have 10 games each, and in December and January, we’ll have 11 each, totaling 42 games. That’s why I opted for this program,” said Zeljko Obradovic. He continued to talk about the opponent:
“As for Mega, they are young and talented players, exceptionally well-coached. Congratulations to my players for reaching the semifinals. It’s up to us to analyze their game against Cedevita Olimpija and then be well-prepared for that match. And thank you to the Partizan fans for the warm welcome.”
Defensive lapses
“The first games will reveal certain things and shortcomings, such as defensive lapses. The problem is that you prepare in one way, and then other things come up. Ponitka is not with us due to injury, Aleksa Avramovic also has issues with his ankle. He doesn’t feel ready yet to play at the level he’d like. These are common things for this period. Even in the previous preparations, we played with just one point guard. It’s essential that the other players played at the necessary level to secure the win.”
About Danilo Nikolic
“He got injured during the preparations, and we were ready to help him with medical services. I think he’s here in Podgorica. When we discussed him coming to the preparations, it was mutually agreed upon. He had that pain, and after they did the MRI, they realized he needed a 10-day break to recover. I wish him all the best.”
In the remaining part of the playoffs, Mega will face Cedevita Olimpija. Two more quarterfinals are scheduled for today, featuring matchups between Budućnost and Zadar, as well as FMP and Studentski Centar.
