Roger Grimau, the head coach of Barcelona, spoke after his team’s win against Olympiacos in the EuroLeague play-off game.
Grimau tried to level the series after the failure in the first game. He did so, thanks to the masterful performance of Jabari Parker.
“We based the victory on a very good first and last quarter, especially defensively. The defensive work has been excellent, we already had a good second half in the first game. They punish turnovers a lot. When you’re shooting well from the outside, it helps things to flow. We were able to catch our breath in the first quarter. In the second half, overall, we found good shots, we were accurate, and very happy with today’s win. Starting the game well gives you more confidence.
The first and last quarters are crucial for us, and today we were very good, especially defensively. In the situation we were in, it was crucial to win. We did very good things defensively, which allowed us to run. I am pleased with the solidity and intensity we showed. Now, perhaps the most difficult challenge awaits us, having to win at least one game on Olympiacos’ court. We all know what it’s like to play in Greece, in a playoff. We understand defense as a collective effort, not individual.”
About Andorra
“The Andorra game, in the midst of such a tough series, must be approached like Barcelona. We have to go to win everywhere. It would be better to have this break, but we won’t have it. Historically, it has always been like this. It is what it is, and we try to handle it in the best possible way.”
Mental aspect
“In sports, the mental aspect is very important. When we enter crucial stretches of the season, it becomes even more relevant. We need to rest physically and recover as soon as possible. If there’s one thing my players know,” said Roger Grimau.
The third game of the series between Olympiacos and Barcelona will be played on April 30th at 8:30 PM, with the Greek team hosting the game.
