Tyrese Maxey’s points and career-high performance saved the Philadelphia 76ers in the fourth game, but now the NBA has issued a statement.
The series between the New York Knicks and Philadelphia 76ers has been incredibly interesting. There have been many close finishes and games decided by just one shot. The New York Knicks still have the opportunity to advance as they lead the series 3-2, but it’s noteworthy that they could have already closed out the series.
The NBA stated that officials in Tuesday night’s Game 5 between the Knicks and 76ers missed a crucial travel violation on Philadelphia 76ers’ star player. According to the league’s Last Two Minute Report, Maxey’s pivotal play should have been halted before it even started, along with three other missed calls. Down by 6 points with 28.2 seconds remaining, Maxey made a bumping contact with Robinson as he went up for a 3-pointer, which he made. Maxey also made the ensuing free throw.
The other calls to be identified as incorrect include a clock error, when there should have been 0.4 seconds left on the last play of regulation instead of having the clock run out, giving the Knicks one desperation chance to win the game before overtime.
Jalen Brunson also should have been called for an offensive foul on the play where he received a flagrant foul from Joel Embiid. Hart was also deemed not to be out of bounds with 41.5 left in regulation.
The next game will be played on May 3rd at 3:00 AM.
