Buducnost defeated Zadar on the road in the second game of the ABA League quarterfinal series by 80:73, securing their place in the semifinals.
It started quite tough on both ends. In the first two and a half minutes, we only saw one basket on each side. The Podgorica team had a very poor start and couldn’t shake off the tension. Petar Popovic hit a three-pointer that broke the drought. Finally, both teams managed to string together two or three quality attacks, and the trouble for Zadar was that Luka Bozic committed two fouls. After Allerik Freeman’s basket, the guests led 16:15 after the first 10 minutes.
The rhythm was finally established. Andrej Zakelj’s players got used to scoring and started hitting from long range. The blue-and-white team reached their biggest lead after Kenan Kamenjas’s basket.
Buducnost’s lead hovered around five points, Juan Davis brought some better energy for Zadar, while Bozic struggled again. Adem Mekic and Andrija Slavkovic exchanged baskets in the last minute, and at halftime on the coast, it was 39:33.
The second half started with a 5:0 run by Zadar, and the guests were without points in the first four minutes. The team of Danijel Jusup had good energy, and they finally took the lead with points from Lovro Mazalin. After a short break due to clock issues, Yogi Ferrell hit a three-pointer, igniting a 9:0 run after which the score was 50:42.
This time, Zadar started the quarter slightly worse, and Buducnost capitalized on it. Fletcher Magee finally hit a three-pointer, and then Kamenjas scored with a foul for a 12-point lead (61:49). The Montenegrin team’s advantage extended to 15 points, and they comfortably finished the game from there.
The top scorer for the winning team was Yoan Makoundou with 19 points, while Yogi Ferrell contributed 13. Kenan Kamenjas also had a strong performance with 12 points and 10 rebounds. In Zadar, Arijan Lakic scored the most points with 17, while the ABA League MVP, Luka Bozic, played a crucial role for the home team. He had 15 points, 10 assists, and 9 rebounds, showcasing his versatility and impact on the game.
