Mike James had reason to be pleased as Monaco outplayed Fenerbahce and leveled the series at 1-1 in the EuroLeague quarterfinals.
The team from the Principality emerged victorious after an extremely interesting game with many fluctuations. They had a 16-point lead on two occasions early in the game, only to find themselves trailing 74:65 in the final period.
They scored only 11 points in the third quarter, but an impressive fourth quarter led by Jordan Loyd, who scored the last six points for Monaco, brought them the win by 93:88.
What might disappoint Mike James is certainly his individual performance, which wasn’t up to par. It seemed like he wouldn’t have a memorable game when he had to sit on the bench after just four minutes due to two personal fouls.
In the end, he finished the game with just eight points, making only two field goals out of seven attempts (2/7). It was his first EuroLeague game this season where he scored in single digits. However, he filled up all statistical columns and contributed with seven rebounds and seven assists for an efficiency index of 18.
This season, Mike James has surpassed Vassilis Spanoulis in scoring and has become the all-time leading scorer in the history of the competition. He currently averages 18.3 points, 5.2 assists, and 4.2 rebounds per game. His efficiency index is 19.9, making him the frontrunner for the MVP award, and it would be a huge surprise if he didn’t win it.
