Virtus healed their painful elimination from the EuroLeague with a triumph against Reggiana in the 28th round of the Serie A by 83:73.
After their defeat to Baskonia in the EuroLeague play-in, this was the first game for head coach Luca Banchi’s squad. To his satisfaction, they showed a reaction and continued the battle for the top position in the Serie A table.
Everything was settled by halftime when Virtus imposed a fast pace and capitalized on every mistake of their rivals. At the break after 20 minutes of play, the team from Bologna led 57:41. In the late third quarter, Reggiana created a 12:2 run to narrow the deficit to single digits before the decisive ten minutes (65:58).
Too many turnovers from Reggiana in the fourth quarter cost them dearly, resulting in a new 11-point lead for Virtus. They only wrapped up the game for their landmark 20th win of the season.
